So organised, it’s scary!
Proud mother of Staffies

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN COMING ALONG TO THE MEN’S SHED AND WHY?

I answered an ad for a volunteer secretary and started in the position in July 2021, completing my tenure in 2022, then resuming in 2023.
I knew about the Men’s Shed and really liked its philosophy and thought that was exactly what my dad would have loved to join because of the woodworking and camaraderie.
I had grown up around the timber industry and been his apprentice furniture maker during my childhood.
When I had a chance to be useful in this environment, I jumped at it.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY ABOUT SPENDING TIME AT THE MEN’S SHED?

Being useful in helping organising things, having fun with everyone around the lunch table, being able to do some woodworking of my own with the ladies’ group and listening to the machinery and smelling the wood!

WHAT ONE THING WOULD YOU LIKE PEOPLE TO KNOW ABOUT THE ARMIDALE MEN’S SHED?

It doesn’t matter what skills you have, there is always some way you can contribute to the shed, someone to help you learn new skills and always someone to have a laugh with.

AND A FEW GET-TO-KNOW-YOU QUESTIONS…

DID YOU PURSUE A PARTICULAR CAREER PATH?

Originally language teaching, then special education teaching, then more broadly working in all sorts of community services with all sorts of different groups of people.

DO YOU HAVE ANY HOBBIES?

I am an avid motorsport fan, especially Supercars, so will turn off my phone and refuse to answer the door when they are on! I have been to tracks for the bikes and cars and intend to visit the current tracks as part of my bucket list. I also love watching tennis (I played a bit when I was younger), reading, and caravanning.

WHAT IS ONE THING THAT INSTANTLY MAKES YOUR DAY BETTER?

Wake up kisses from my dog!

AND THE BIG QUESTION…

THERE ARE A NUMBER OF CONTENTIOUS TOPICS OF CONVERSATION THAT CAN BRING DISCORD TO THE MOST CIVILIZED OF DISCUSSIONS, ONE OF WHICH IS THE TOPIC OF PINEAPPLE ON PIZZA – YES OR NO?

Absolutely no 👎
